Casio G-Squad GBD H-1000 GET IT FOR: Starts at Rs 39,355 HIGHLIGHT: Battery system
Some brands become synonymous with certain features and build a loyal clientele. Like Casio. The G-Shock series became popular for its ruggedness.
The G-Squad GBD H-1000 now brings that ruggedness with the functionality of a smartwatch. Moving past the rather convoluted name, the G-Squad is unlike any other smartwatch. It is big and meant for those who like rough-and-tough looking watches. It is heavy too, at 100 g, and takes days to get used to.
The display is not the typical all-colour touchscreen but a backlit black-and-white LCD one. It takes time to get used to the display but it works fine under direct sunlight as well.
Like most other things with this watch, Casio makes you work really hard to get the best out of it. The OS that powers the G-Squad H-1000 is really different and the five buttons you find on the watch aren't that easy to navigate. There is a lot of information on the display. You can see heart rate, activity figures and others. But you have to work hard to find all of them. The companion app is helpful but takes time to connect to a smartphone - at least to an iPhone.
However, the smartwatch has a lot going for it when it comes to features. You will find a compass, a pressure sensor, a heartrate sensor, a thermometer, GPS, accelerometer and more. The watch has an accurate steptracker. You can create five custom workout modes to track your fitness activity.
The best part of the smartwatch? Easily its battery. It comes with a solar charging system which means that we never really had to plug it in. We used it for almost two weeks without charging it.
At Rs 39,995, the G-Squad can give a price shock. The rugged design, difficult-to-navigate OS and a not-so-great display go against it.
