This year has seen many of us developing fresh skills and finding new ways of entertaining ourselves at home – for some, a long-held desire to learn an instrument has become achievable.

And it’s not just a fun way to fill the time – far from it. Apart from the fulfilment of mastering a tune, research shows many health and wellbeing benefits from learning and playing music. Studies have revealed it can boost cognitive function and memory, as well as improve motor skills and arthritis.

Music therapy has been used to help people of all ages overcome symptoms of depression, anxiety and loneliness for a number of years. And recently it has seen a huge increase in popularity with older people, including those with dementia, who can retain musical aptitude and appreciation even when other abilities are lost.

When it comes to electronic keyboards and pianos, one name springs to mind – Casio. Currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, the company launched the world’s first electronic keyboard, the Casiotone 201, in 1980, putting themselves at the forefront of a new era of electronic pop.

Casio was a game-changer then and it remains one now, with four decades of producing innovative tech that remains accessible and easy to use. Whether you’re thinking of learning, or can already play and would like to upgrade your instrument, there’s a Casio for you…

UNITED ARROWS Dresses G-SHOCK AW-500 in Handsome Charcoal Steel - HYPEBEAST

wristwatch.indah.link

UNITED ARROWS doesn’t get as much G-SHOCK love as its competitor, BEAMS, but the Japanese retailer still drops a sophisticated Casio timepiece from time to time. Its latest bespoke G-SHOCK is a clean revision of the retro AW-500, the first analog-digital G-SHOCK that was introduced back in 1989.

This collaborative edition is a nod to the special G-SHOCK AW-500 that UNITED ARROWS issued in 1996, slightly updated with contemporary tech. Realized entirely in stainless steel, the tough, Japanese-made timepiece is given a sleek charcoal facade that’s only offset by flecks of gold on the hands, markers and G-SHOCK logo. UNITED ARROWS branding graces the case’s rear to reiterate the joint effort, while the strap is fastened with an easily adjustable clasp. Naturally, it comes cushioned in an equally elegant co-branded box.

Pre-order the unique G-SHOCK AW-500 on UNITED ARROWS’ web store for ¥77,000 JPY (approximately $740 USD) before it launches later this month.

Recently, artist Jahan Loh dreamed up a series of Romance of the Three Kingdoms-inspired G-SHOCK watches.

Casio G-Shock GA-2100 – a slim, light and pocket-friendly watch - dlmag

wristwatch.indah.link

If you go searching a G-Shock you must buy, you will accidentally or purposely land on the GA-2100 – 1A1, humbly called the CasiOak, for its slender form factor and pocket-friendly price tag.

This one is not a new revelation but for the time it has been there, it has been a heart-winning option. The thinnest among G-Shock combination models, the watch measures just 11.8mm at the thickest place.

Classic G-Shock design

The G-Shock GA-2100 is a predominantly analog timepiece with a physical day indicator at 9 o’clock and a design that’s so much G-Shock that you can instantly recognize it in the crowd. The watch is also known as the CasiOak amid the critics for its strong resemblance to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, which is undoubtedly not its sales boaster, even though this similarity has been the talking point on the internet.

The watch features a recognizable octagon design first brought forth in the original DW-5000C. The case made from a robust resin material and reinforced with carbon fiber engulfs the analog-digital dial and gives the entire contraption the G-Shock level toughness.

Pricing and more

In addition to being one of the slimmest G-Shocks, the GA-2100 is also the lightest, weighing just 51 grams. Distinctive from most analog watches out there, this G-Shock model eliminates the crown – when the time is digitally adjusted with the onboard pushers, the hands auto-adjust precisely.

Shock-resistant and water-resistant up to 200m, the Casio G-Shock GA-2100 – 1A1 has the traditional features like timer, world time, stopwatch and LED light. Whether you want a daily driver or an occasional sports watch, this one at a very lucrative $99 tag makes for a must-have.

Casio G-Shock GBD-H1000 review: Rugged watch with smart features, utility - Business Standard

wristwatch.indah.link

At Rs 39,995, the Casio G-Shock GBD-H1000 brings the modern day features in a conventional G-Shock form factor. Business Standard took the smartwatch out for a spin to test its worth. Read the review

Topics
G-Shock | smartwatch | smart wearables market

Erick Massey  |  New Delhi

Casio’s has maintained its niche fan base of people that prefer rugged look and study design. So far, the line-up has been restricted to non-smart watches despite the growing clutter of smartwatches but 2020 seems to be the year of the unusual. Known for making watches for adventurers, Casio in August launched the GBD-H1000. This is one-of-its-kind as it carries forward Casio’s legacy of making rugged watches but with smart features this time. It has built-in GPS for location services, multiple sensors, and solar charging on top of regular USB charging. Besides, it features an optical heart rate sensor. Being a G-Shock, it goes without saying that the watch is both shock and water resistance.

Priced at Rs 39,995, the Casio G-Shock GBD-H1000 brings the modern day features in a conventional G-Shock form factor. Business Standard took the out for a spin to test its worth. Here is the review:

Build and design

Casio G-Shock GBD-H1000

The G-shock GBD-H1000 has a thick strap, pop colours, large display bezel, and a familiar display. The dial has a thick case made of resin and stainless steel. It is sturdy and can withstand abuses in harsh outdoor conditions. The protruding plastic and the screws holding it adds to its tough aesthetic. It is a familiar digital screen with mineral glass protection. Important to note, it is not a touchscreen. The black and white LCD display with a one-side LED backlighting looks a bit old school, and it may pinch to some spending, especially when even the cheapest smartwatches now boast a coloured display.

Casio G-Shock GBD-H1000

The display bezel has markings, depicting functions of side buttons. This makes it easy to memorise the function of each button. The buttons are large and textured, which makes them easy to use. The strap is flexible and strong. The navigation is done through the watch’s five physical buttons available on the circumference of the screen. Among them is a dedicated circular button to start recording running metrics.

Features and performance

Casio G-Shock GBD-H1000

This G-shock comes with five sensors to track heart rate, altitude, temperature and the immediate barometric pressure. It also has a built-in GPS and compass.

It has an optical heart rate sensor, which also doubles up as VO2 max monitor. The GBD-H1000 is water resistance by up to 200 metres, ensuring no damage when exposed to water.

The watch comes as a device for those into fitness. Runners would be too happy to wrap this on their wrist so that while they sweat it out, the watch records every possible information they need. However, we felt it's a bit bulky and may not be too comfortable on the field.

The heart rate sensor seems pretty accurate, but that's in standard condition. It's almost at par with other fitness wearables but at times it does record very high heart rate. If you're using a dependable device for heart rate and other metrics, then you would be able to figure out the minor deviation from normal in GBD-H1000.

Casio G-Shock GBD-H1000

To get more insights into how your workout went, you will have to open the G-Shock Move app which is not as fancy as the watch. It does hold a lot of information about your fitness metrics but we had expected a better representation.

The price tag also may pinch those who like to carry their music along during workouts. To their dismay, G-shock GBD-H1000 doesn't offer music support which means you would have to use phone and earbuds/earphones separately.

Another thing is it's really tough to read notifications. You just get a glimpse of the notification and it's such a task to read that in the tiny watch screen.

Battery

Casio G-Shock GBD-H1000

This is one area where G-shock GBD-H1000 excels. It boasts a solar panel for charging on-the-go. Moreover, going by the company’s claim, the watch can go on for up to 12 months on a single charge with basic watch features.

We did test the watch with standard charging and using maximum features such as always-on heart rate monitoring, vibration for every little notification and calls, and few activity sessions and the watch can last for about a week, strictly speaking 4-5 days.

With solar charging, the battery keeps refilling silently. This is indeed a useful feature as smartwatches tend to drain battery quickly and it's a hassle to charge them all the time. The solar charging isn't quick but seems to be a well-though feature for adventurers who find it difficult to carry gadgets’ charging gear everywhere.

Verdict

Casio G-Shock GBD-H1000

This rugged G-Shock has learned a few smart tricks and the right ones that do not completely redefine the watch. It retained its basic G-shock character with modern functions a could offer, but it all comes at a price everyone may not be comfortable with. For those into fitness with loyalty towards Garmin or Fitbit may not find GBD-H1000 an ideal wearable, despite its ability to record multiple metrics with great precision.

For those with a penchant for something big and heavy, or G-shock fans, this is more than a sweet deal. At Rs 39,995, GBD-H1000 brings the best of both worlds, the comfort of conventional digital G-shock and a modern smartwatch that counts your steps, heart rate, VO2 max, and a lot more. It will go on, all it needs is some sun out there.

There are a few ways to get the G-Shock experience with a metal case construction rather than the brand's famous plastic cases: The newer Full Metal watches reinterpret Casio classics in steel, for example, while the MRG offers a full-on luxury-level G-Shock sometimes costing thousands of dollars. The MTG line is similar to the latter but significantly more affordable, and the newest model combines refined, premium features and familiar looks with a circa $1k price tag.

The dial has a layout consistent with other models, but it's really the faceted bezel which catches the eye with a familiar profile. Where have you seen something like that before? Though the bezel here is 12-sided, it inevitably evokes the look of the famous Audemars Piguet Royal Oak's octagonal bezel (and follows the surprisingly popular G-Shock GA-2100, or "Casioak"). The exposed screws, though typical of the MTG line, reinforce the association.

G-Shock

It's no knock on this G-Shock that it looks a bit like a Royal Oak, as it still very much has its own character. As part of the MTG series, it features premium specs like a steel construction, refined finishing, Tough Solar (batteries recharged by light), bluetooth connection for handy smartphone synching and operation and even sapphire crystal. It's also got the brand's latest upgrades including a carbon inner case for further durability, and new plastic inserts in the metal bracelet are meant to enhance comfort.

As with just about every G-Shock, the list of features and tech is just too long to enumerate, but suffice it to say that this one has all the goodies you can reasonably expect for its price. Oh, and it's going to wear boldly, of course, at 51mm wide. The new Casio G-Shock MTGB2000 is offered in steel (with steel bracelet) with a black dial and bezel for $1,000 or black ion-plated case and blue bezel (on a strap) for $950.

Casio Unveils G-Shock MR-G MRGBH2000SH-5A Shougeki-Maru Inspired By Samurai Armor

Few brands can match the Casio G-Shock line for sheer variety, not just in function and form, but also in price range. While most enthusiasts tend to associate the rugged G-Shock series with the original affordable resin cased digital designs that still form the backbone of its lineup, Casio also uses more premium series of G-Shock models to showcase truly world class finishing work. The G-Shock MR-G series stands at the pinnacle of the lineup, and for its latest release Casio has combined its own complex high tech design language with a traditional Japanese motif inspired by the helmets worn by samurai warriors. The limited edition Casio G-Shock MR-G MRGBH2000SH-5A Shougeki-Maru is a handcrafted melding of the past and future of Japanese design. The massive 49.8mm case of the G-Shock MR-G Shougeki-Maru is by far the most captivating part of the piece, with a unique rusty look to the titanium material. This aged style is achieved through multiple layers of brown and blue ion plating, allowing a brand new titanium case to evoke the look of a centuries-old rusted steel helmet. The bezel takes the look several steps further with the use of a traditional Japanese technique known as tetsu sabji, creating a series of pitted marks that are then filled with contrasting navy blue ion plating. The case is finished with a hand engraved dragon partially circling the bezel, carved by noted metalsmith Masao Kobayashi. The dial of the G-Shock MR-G Shougeki-Maru continues the navy blue touches and classical Japanese motifs, with a triangular pattern overlaid on the black main dial that has appeared in Japanese art for centuries. The in-house 5652 quartz movement inside the G-Shock MR-G Shougeki-Maru is typically complex for the brand, boasting Bluetooth connectivity, radio controlled time calibration, Casio’s own Tough Solar charging system, LED dial illumination, a day/date complication, chronograph, and much more. The three link integrated bracelet features the same tetsu sabji finishing as the bezel, for a cohesive and dramatic look. While a far cry from Casio’s usual fare, the traditional finishing techniques of the limited edition Casio G-Shock MR-G MRGBH2000SH-5A Shougeki-Maru make it a compelling exercise in distinctly Japanese design. While the piece is a limited edition, Casio has not yet released the exact edition size. MSRP for the Casio G-Shock MR-G MRGBH2000SH-5A Shougeki-Maru stands at $8,000, available exclusively through select G-Shock retailers beginning in November 2020. Seiko Releases Prospex LX SNR049 Sky Limited Edition

Over the past several years, Seiko has begun to design its limited edition releases not just around unique finishes or colorways, but around more evocative narrative ideas. The brand has centered recent limited edition releases around ideas as diverse as the texture of Antarctic undersea moss and a perfectly made Negroni cocktail, but the most common theme surrounding these concepts is the look of the natural world. Seiko has looked to the very edge of the world as the inspiration for its latest release, producing a new Spring Drive GMT model meant to evoke the transition between the upper atmosphere and outer space. The resulting Seiko Prospex LX SNR049 Sky Limited Edition brings a compelling two tone dial treatment to one of mainline Seiko’s highest-end sports models for a truly dramatic look. The 44.8mm titanium case of the Seiko Prospex LX SNR049 Sky Limited Edition follows the same signature “Grammar of Design” form as its regular production counterpart, wearing significantly smaller than the numbers suggest thanks to a severe undercut midway down the case sides and lugs. The case finishing is a mix of brushing and Zaratsu polishing, protected with Seiko’s proprietary super-hard coating. The two tone sapphire GMT bezel insert is likewise carried over from the standard production variant,  which in initial images looks to blend well with the two tone dial. Water resistance stands at a respectable 100 meters. The Prospex LX SNR049 Sky Limited Edition’s most prominent change, of course, is the main dial surface. While the gradual transition from pure black at 12 o’clock to a deep sky blue at 6 o’clock is dramatic at first glance, close inspection reveals another of shifting as the glossy black surface becomes a dynamic blue sunburst. This split tone look likely won’t be for everyone, but the level of finishing involved is compelling. The dial layout itself is more or less carried over from its predecessors, with the arrow tipped GMT hand rendered in a vibrant sky blue as a focal point. Seiko powers the Prospex LX SNR049 Sky Limited Edition with the manufacture 5R66 Spring Drive GMT movement. Combining elements of a mechanical movement with a quartz regulator and a completely smooth seconds hand sweep, the 5R66 offers accuracy of +15/-15 seconds per month and a robust 72 hour power reserve. Seiko finishes the watch with a three link oyster style bracelet in brushed titanium. While not the most innovative of Seiko’s limited edition pieces, the unique dial finishing of the Seiko Prospex LX SNR049 Sky Limited Edition helps it to stand out dramatically from both the competition and Seiko’s own lineup. Only 400 examples of the Seiko Prospex LX SNR049 Sky Limited Edition will be made, and will be available from authorized dealers in November 2020 at an MSRP of $5,500. Casio G-Shock: 'absolute resistance' watches arrive Brazil - Somag News

wristwatch.indah.link

G-Shock, the main division of watchmaker Casio, announced the arrival of the GA-900 line to Brazil – which offers six robust models, all water resistant (200 meters). With lighting behind the display, new bracelet connector and textured bracelet, according to the company, the devices have absolute resistance to operate in extreme environments and innovative design inspired by industrial tools. The difference, he adds, is the battery life, of about seven years.

Rodrigo Garavelli, company sales manager, highlights that the creation of the novelties took about two years. “Some changes took place during the process to reach the final product and, after all the improvements and tests, we came to the conclusion that the new G-Shock line brings not only innovation in design, but also highlights even more the differential of our brand: absolute resistance to any impact “, he explains.

Referring to the shape of a nut, created by a 10-sided bezel, the accessories have a frame fixed by four screws. The hand design of the watches and the graphic figures that appear on them, points out the G-Shock, create a powerful design that improves readability.

The timing, provided by analog hands together with a digital display, “guarantees maximum operational ease.” Finally, the band connection and all buttons have checkered surfaces that prevent slipping and contribute to improving efficiency.

Unique experience

The physical launch of the products will take place at Shopping Morumbi (São Paulo), from October 31 to November 13, bringing a kiosk with virtual reality resources that will simulate three limit situations of use of the watch “to offer a unique experience to Brazilian consumers . ”

“We would like to do something different and memorable to highlight our greatest differential, using technology and our first-rate product in our favor”, says Adriana Majella, Marketing specialist.
