Pre-owned Rolex reseller Bob's Watches is holding its latest "Fresh Finds" mini-auction online, this time themed on 1960s sport watches. It features four "fresh-to-market" vintage watch references, each considered rare and coveted among collectors: three from Rolex and an Omega Speedmaster. Bidding is open until August 4th between 4:00 and 5:30 pm PST, and unlike the case with many auctions, there's no buyer's premium to pay.
These are the kinds of watches you can't be blamed for drooling over, and if you're ready for investment-level watch collecting — or simply want to fantasize about owning a legend — you can see more about each lot below.
This example of the famous Speedmaster, referred to as a "pre-Moon" watch, dates to before the era of the NASA-approved "Moonwatch." This particular model, nicknamed the "Ed White" for the astronaut who wore one, is distinctive for its straight lugs and is powered by the famous cal. 321 chronograph movement.
Year: ~1965 Estimate: $14,000 to $23,000 Movement: Omega cal. 321
An early example of Rolex's famous bi-color "Pepsi" bezel GMT Master, this reference 1675 dates to 1963 and has a tiny detail that makes a big difference to collectors: its dial is marked only "Swiss" rather than the more common "Swiss Made." This one is also notable for its lovely gilt dial, a detail that makes a huge difference in pricing.
Year: ~1963 Estimate: $20,000 to $35,000 Movement: Rolex cal. 1560
While the Submariner was introduced in 1953, the later reference 5512 is what established the look we know today. The rest is history: it's now the most iconic watch ever made. This example, from around 1961, also has a gilt dial.
Year: ~1961 Estimate: $25,000 to $35,000 Movement: Rolex cal. 1530
Dating to about a decade after the first Explorer was launched in 1953, the reference 1016 is most representative of Rolex's original sports watch line. Early examples like this one have glossy dials with gilt elements, whereas these were later replaced by matte dials.
Year: ~1963 Estimate: $15,000 to $25,000 Movement: Rolex cal. 1560

The ongoing pandemic has caused many businesses to shift to an online environment, with workers convening for meetings, coffee breaks, and even company happy hours within the context of a Zoom session. Everybody's had to adapt, so it's not completely surprising that we've seen online auctions, which have been around for some time, grow in prominence and set new records of their own.
Earlier today in London, the 18-karat gold John Player Special ref. 6264 you see here sold for £1,215,000 including buyer's premium (or $1,545,723). In auctioning this watch, Sotheby's broke its own record for a watch sold in an online auction, the house says. But that's not all: This also marks the new record price for a Daytona John Player Special sold at auction, says Sotheby's, as well as the record for a wristwatch auctioned in the United Kingdom.
A Royal Oak woman who reported her $7,000 Rolex watch was stolen from the glove box of her car last week now got it back Wednesday, police said.
Royal Oak police started an investigation after the diamond watch was reported stolen July 22 from the woman’s car outside her apartment in the 900 block of Stephenson Highway.
The woman named her ex-boyfriend as a possible suspect.
Police on Monday left a voice message with the man asking him to contact the police department.
Police said they didn’t hear back from the man, but the woman contacted them Wednesday to report the watch had been returned and she didn’t want to pursue larceny charges against the suspect.
She did not tell police any details of how the watch was returned to her.

The suspect is a Madison Heights man, 56.
He was arrested for the outstanding warrant and a misdemeanor charge of consuming or possessing alcohol in public.
$22K motorcycle stolen downtown
A man from St. Clair County parked his 2018 Yamaha motorcycle in a lot at North Main and University street discovered it stolen when he returned.

The owner told police he came from his home in Allenton to visit the downtown area July 25.
He was in the downtown area for several hours and had the only key to cycle with him.
Man 80, arrested for shoplifting at Meijer
A Detroit man, 80 was arrested after security employees at Meijer, 5150 Coolidges, told police they saw him try to steal several items.
Police said the man put tool sockets, soda pop and crackers in a shopping cart and tried to leave without paying July 23.
The man admitted to trying to take the items.
He told police he took the tool sockets because he had to repair his car.
Police ticketed the man for misdemeanor retail fraud.
Men again steal deodorant, other items at CVS
A pair of men stole deodorant and other items from CVS Pharmacy, 30900 Woodward Ave., a day after a similar theft there.
In the first theft July 22, two men stole an unknown number of personal hygiene items in a bag and fled in a dark colored SUV.
The next day, two men stole deodorant and liquor from the same store and fled in a blue Chevrolet Impala.
Goods such as deodorant, baby formula and other items are often stolen from large retailers and sold at a discount to small independent stores in Detroit, police said.
The Wear OS-powered Oppo Watch is launching in global markets, starting today, July 31.
The Oppo Watch is the first smartwatch with a dual-curved display.
Oppo included some interesting features that will likely help extend battery life.
Oppo unveiled its flagship smartwatch last March, but it was only released in China and ran a proprietary operating system. Now, the Oppo Watch is launching globally, and it’s very different from the China-only version.
For starters, the Oppo Watch is running Wear OS, Google’s smartwatch operating system. That means it has access to thousands of apps, watch faces, and comes with direct access to Google Fit.
Oppo is releasing two Oppo Watch models for global markets (notably the UK and India): a 46mm LTE-capable version and a 41mm Wi-Fi-only version. The 41mm version’s rear surface is made only of plastic, while the 46mm models also feature ceramic. The smaller version also has a 3ATM water resistance rating, while the larger model gets a 5ATM rating.
I don’t want to harp on this too much anymore (mostly because I’ve already done so), but despite the Oppo Watch being a downright beautiful piece of hardware, I think a lot of people will be turned away from its Apple Watch-copying design. These watches are nearly identical, although the Oppo Watch doesn’t have the nice rotatable crown like Apple’s watch does.
There are other spec differences between the two sizes. The 41mm version comes with a smaller 1.6-inch AMOLED display with a lower 320 x 360 resolution. The bigger version has a 1.9-inch screen and a higher 402 x 476 resolution. Both have curved displays on the left and right sides. We usually don’t like waterfall displays on smartphones, but we don’t think it will cause any usability issues on a smartwatch.
Oppo was also able to fit a larger battery into the 46mm variant — this version has a 430mAh battery, which Oppo claims will last 30 hours with normal use or 21 days in power saving mode. The smaller Oppo Watch has a 300mAh cell, which will last 24 hours with normal use or 14 days in power saving mode.
Performance should be pretty good, no matter which version you buy. The Oppo Watch is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, though it doesn’t have the newest 4100 chip. That should be just fine — we’ve used the 3100 Qualcomm chip on most 2019 smartwatches and haven’t found any major performance issues. It’s also backed by 1GB of RAM, which should be more than enough to handle Wear OS.
Oppo included another chip on the Oppo Watch to help with battery life. In smartwatch mode, the Oppo Watch uses the Snapdragon chip. For less processor-intensive tasks, the watch switches to the power-saving Apollo 3 chipset, which Oppo claims will result in a better balance between high performance and energy efficiency.
And finally, fitness. The Oppo Watch comes with built-in GPS + GLONASS and an always-on optical heart rate sensor. It can track a variety of activities with Google Fit, and Oppo included five workout modes with voice coaching: fitness run, fat burn run, outdoor walk, outdoor cycling, and swimming.

The Wear OS-powered Oppo Watch is being released in select markets starting today, July 31. It goes on sale in India starting August 10 priced at Rs. 14,990 (~$200) and Rs. 19,990 (~$269) for the 41mm and 46mm versions, respectively. Meanwhile, smartwatch fans in the UK can pick up the 46mm version for £369 (~$484) from October or the 41mm from September 3 for £229 (~$300).
As for colors, the 41mm model comes in Black or Glossy Gold and the 46mm version is available in Black, Silver, or Rose Gold.
There’s no word on whether or not it’ll be sold directly in the US. Regardless, importing one shouldn’t be too difficult, and the LTE bands will likely work with US carriers.

The Oppo Watch looks good overall, but there are some obvious things that might turn people away — the Apple design cues, the lack of a rotatable dial, and the missing Snapdragon 4100 SoC are the big offenders. We’ll get one in for review soon, though, so stay tuned for more Oppo Watch coverage in the next couple weeks.

Since launching in 2019, the watches in Seiko’s Prospex LX line have won accolades for their sporty design, attention to detail, and robust construction. Now Seiko has grown the collection with the new Prospex LX SNR045, a dive watch with an eye-catching green color scheme that references Japan’s long history of scientific exploration in Antarctica.
So how exactly does a green colorway represent the famously cold and icy continent of Antarctica? To answer that, you’ll need to know a little bit about the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE). The program launched with a voyage to Antarctica in 1956 and established a research outpost, Syowa Station, on the continent a year later. In the decades since, JARE teams have performed all kinds of research, and they have made a number of important discoveries—including a surprising finding under the surface of a frigid Antarctic lake in an area called Skarvsnes. There, researchers found tower-like clumps of aquatic moss growing in the icy water, and the green hues and patterned dial of the SNR045 are an homage to these hardy “moss pillars.”
Mounds of aquatic moss are an unexpected source for style inspiration, and it definitely makes this watch unique. The 44.8mm case stands out boldly on the wrist and offers plenty of space for the “underwater forest” pattern on the dial to shine. The dial features date and power reserve displays and LumiBrite hands and indices, and it’s topped with curved sapphire crystal and a forest green ceramic rotating bezel. Considering that many other sport watches stick with traditional accent colors like blue and black, the rich green features on the SNR045 are a welcome departure from the norm.
Of course, this is a dive watch we’re talking about, and some impressive details back up the tasteful design and ensure good performance under demanding conditions. The SNR045 is water resistant to 300 meters, features an ultra-tough titanium case and bracelet, and comes with a screw-down crown to lock out moisture. Like any true dive watch, the rotating bezel has minute indices for tracking time underwater. It’s also powered by Seiko’s innovative Spring Drive system (caliber 5R65), which combines a mechanically driven movement with a quartz regulator for top-notch accuracy—it’s accurate to within a second per day. Pair that with the watch’s 72-hour power reserve, and you have one highly dependable timepiece, whether you’re wearing it with your scuba gear or just on a weekend getaway.
It’s also destined to be a collector’s item: Seiko plans to manufacture just 500 of these emerald-toned watches, and each one will come with its limited edition number engraved on the case back. The SNR045 goes on sale in August, so keep an eye out to snag this handsome watch for your collection.
Although it looks a lot like the Apple Watch, the larger Oppo Watch actually has dual curved edges that the company describes as a “flexible AMOLED”, while the 41mm model is flat. Depending on the size you choose, you’ll be getting either a big 1.91-inch or 1.6-inch 1,000-nit touchscreen that should be easily readable in sunlight.
The smaller version has a 300mAh battery that should help it last up to 24 hours of standard smartwatch use and 14 days in a power saver mode. Meanwhile, the bigger Watch has a 430mAh cell with an estimated 36-hour runtime for the WiFi model. LTE will obviously tap the battery more and Oppo expects the cellular option to last up to 30 hours. In Power Saver, the 46mm should hang around for 21 days, whether it’s WiFi or LTE.
These modes are similar to those you’d see on Wear OS watches powered by the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, so the watch still performs basic features like showing the time and counting your steps while it’s running on low power. But Oppo also offers things like notifications and heart rate tracking in its Power Saver mode, making it slightly more useful.
The most intriguing thing about the Oppo Watch is the tweaks the company made to Wear OS on its device. It’s not just about custom watch faces, although Oppo’s default watch face helpfully displays your calories burned and steps taken. There’s also a HeyTap Health app that makes the Oppo Watch a bit better at tracking your health metrics than the average Wear OS watch. For example, you’ll get short workout tutorial videos and coached training sessions, as well as sleep tracking. Runners will also appreciate the onboard GPS for mapping their routes, while those who like swimming will welcome the water resistance of up to 5 ATM.
This is a compelling set of features. But until we know about US pricing and can get our hands on one to try out, I’m reserving judgement -- an impressive specs list is nice, but what matters more is the real world experience.
Few watches are as iconic among watch enthusiasts as Seiko's SRP series, and the SRPE05 Prospex Automatic Diver takes that same classic design and updates it with a slightly more modern aesthetic. The watch's size, shape and khaki green colorway make it infinitely wearable in the day-to-day, and the 24-jewel automatic movement, sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel make it reliable enough to stay that way for years to come.
Gear Patrol Studios
1.
Same Great Shape, But with Upgraded Features:
How do you improve on a timeless classic? Add a ceramic elapsed timing bezel and sapphire crystal with a magnified day/date window. Those may sound like small improvements, but they go a long way in upping the durability and legibility of the watch, while at the same time giving it a richer and more finished quality.
2.
A New Color and Texture for a More Modern Feel:
The new khaki green colorway of the SRPE05 Prospex Automatic Diver goes well with everything. It's a color that feels both retro and decidedly modern at the same time. But beyond the color, the three dimensional dial pattern reflects the unique design of the bezel edge, enhancing the already eye-catching look.
3.
Same Great Performance:
The SRPE05 brings the same great aquatic performance as all the SRP watches before it. It's water-resistant to 200m and features a mechanical movement with 41-hour power reserve. And when it does run out of juice, the movement can be wound both automatically and manually. Whether you're actually diving or just "desk diving," this watch will be sure to please.

WALTON COUNTY, Fla—A Wewahithcka man walked into a car dealership in Okaloosa County and left in a Porsche after paying with a check printed from his home computer, officials reported Thursday.
Officials say 42-year-old Casey William Kelley was arrested for grand theft of a motor vehicle and uttering a false banknote after it was reported to Walton County Sheriff’s Office that he attempted to purchase Rolex watches with a bad check.
During the investigation, it was determined Kelley had purchased a Porsche 911 Turbo from a Porsche dealership in Destin by using a fraudulent check written for $139,203.05 on Monday, July 27th. The Porsche was reported stolen to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say the next day, Kelley presented a check in the amount of $61,521 dollars to the jeweler in Miramar Beach attempting to purchase three Rolex watches. However, the jeweler kept the watches until they could determine if the check would cash. Thursday, they reported to WCSO the check was a fake.
When arrested Wednesday afternoon, Kelley told investigators he printed out the cashier’s checks from his home computer and did not get the cashier’s check from his bank.
Kelley was transported and booked into the Walton County Jail without incident.
Smartwatches have come such a long way. The most advanced models can now be used autonomously, completely untethered from a smartphone. With a smartwatch, you get app, call, and message notifications, music playback, fitness tracking, and plenty more. Three of the best wearables right now, the Apple Watch Series 3 and Apple Watch Series 5, and the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2, are all on sale at Amazon and B&H Photo for as cheap as $169. Hurry and take advantage of these deals immediately as we’re seeing limited availability on all three models.
Apple Watch Series 3 – from $169
The Apple Watch Series 3 used to be the best smartwatch that you could buy (that honor has now been bestowed upon the Series 5), with an interface that easily eclipses Android Wear and a design that’s a huge hit among consumers. It also functions phenomenally as a fitness tracker and, thanks to a new dual-core processor, it has become faster than ever. And since it’s no longer the latest model, it’s not hard to find the Series 3 with massive price cuts on several online retail sites. Right now, you can get it at Amazon starting from $169 instead of the usual $199.
Syncing the Apple Watch Series 3 to your iPhone via Bluetooth allows you to receive real-time notifications and music playback control. You can get notified of calls, text messages, and social media alerts even if your phone is tucked away in your bag. This smartwatch doesn’t have a built-in eSim card, though, so you cannot make phone calls on your wrist. For that, you need to spend a few extra bucks and get the cellular version. The Series 3 is a very reliable fitness tracker. It boasts a gamut of health-centric sensors, including a heart rate monitor, accelerometer, and gyroscope. With this watch, you can track a multitude of activities, including walking, running, swimming, and cycling. When you’ve been sitting for too long, this watch will remind you to get off your feet and take a brief walk. It also helps you relieve pent-up stress through the Breathe feature. All health stats and metrics are aggregated in the Activity app. Even though it’s not the latest or the most feature-packed Apple Watch, the Series 3 is still great value for money.

Apple Watch Series 3 (42mm, GPS) — $199 was $229:

If you’ve got an Android phone, the best smartwatch to augment it with is the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2. Looking like a rounded cousin of the Apple Watch, this wearable boasts comprehensive fitness tracking, a gorgeous display, a wonderfully fluid interface, and two-day battery life. Its main highlight is its digital rotating bezel. It’s not as satisfying as the “clicking” mechanical rotating bezels of the Gear Sport and Galaxy Watch, and it makes the watch a fingerprint magnet, but it’s fun and easy to use nonetheless. The Tizen interface also remains fluid and well-organized. Apps and notifications are presented in an orderly fashion, but we still prefer the Wear OS’s single-file list view though.
All the basics in fitness and wellness tracking are present in the Active 2, plus plenty more. Walking, running, swimming, cycling, rowing, elliptical training, and dynamic workouts are automatically tracked, and you can measure your stress levels with heart rate data and choose to receive reminders to stand, stretch, or go for a quick stroll. The Samsung Health can give you weekly summaries of your wellness trends, including your sleep patterns, activity levels, and heart rate information. We have to mention though that this device lacks a functional electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor. It’s there, but it hasn’t been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration yet, making it useless as of now. Finally, with light usage, you can extend this watch’s battery life up to two days, making it possible to do sleep tracking, unlike with the Apple Watch Series 5.
Apple Watch Series 5 – from $379
The Apple Watch has come a long way since the release of the Apple Watch Series 1. What used to be an extravagant accessory at most has now become an indispensable wrist-worn health tool. Its most essential health feature, the electrocardiogram monitor (first introduced on the Series 4), is designed to detect any irregularity in your heart rate. Having it there will provide peace of mind to anyone with cardiac concerns, as it will send a notification if a problem is detected. Aside from the ECG monitor, the Series 5 also has an internal compass, an even more powerful S5 processor, and a much larger storage capacity. The interface is fun and simple to use. Using the digital crown to zoom in and out of the app screen is great, and the haptic feedback provides an impressively tactile experience. All your basic fitness-tracking needs are covered, plus a few more. It takes care of steps, calories, hourly movement, relaxation, VO2 Max data, hours spent standing, and workout tracking for a range of sports including swimming and biking, and it even handles more unusual activities like yoga and elliptical training.
Visually, there’s nothing that sets the Apple Watch Series 5 apart from its predecessor the Series 4. It still sports the same square design and digital crown control system. Its case is made of 100% recycled aluminum (perfect for the environmentally conscious), although it also comes in titanium, stainless steel, and ceramic if you have the money to splurge, with a case size of either 44mm or 40mm. Curvy and ergonomic, it’s small and light enough to let you feel like you’re not wearing it, and it won’t get caught on your shirt cuff. The biggest difference between the Apple Watch Series 5 and the previous Apple Watch iterations is its always-on display. It will always show the time and you no longer need to raise your wrist in order to wake the screen up. And if you’re thinking that the always-on display will take a serious toll on the battery life, don’t fret. It’s possible to get a full day and a half out of a single charge. Recharging takes about an hour.
