Conor McGregor may be rebuilding after a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 258, but he still had time to throw some jabs at his rival, Floyd Mayweather
The biggest star in MMA and the legendary 50-0 boxer are responsible for the second highest bought pay-per-view in fight history and have both teased a sequel ever since.
McGregor appears focused on revitalising his MMA career for the time being and Mayweather is happy taking on exhibition fights, but money will always talk.
Hardly surprising then that money was on the end of McGregor’s latest jab at Mayweather, who turns 44 next week.
The Notorious sent a birthday message to the legendary boxer (he threw a party for himself on Thursday) and the caption read: “Happy birthday Floyd! We miss you on the Forbes.”
McGregor ranked 16th on Forbes’ highest paid athletes list in 2020 with earnings of $48 million and, of course, Mayweather no longer resides on the list because he is retired.
However, the American once dominated the highest paid lists and is far from strapped for cash.
In fact, he just bought his five-week old grandson a diamond encrusted Rolex watch.
The beautiful timepiece appears to be a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust, with prices starting around £32,000. Factor in the diamond adjustments and we’re probably talking hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Money’s daughter, Yaya, welcomed Kentrell Jr to the world along with rapper NBA Youngboy and the baby was taking it’s first flight on Mayweather’s private jet. Doesn’t sound like he’s doing too bad, eh?
Yaya was the one to post the gift on instagram with the caption: “KJ’s papa got him his first Rolex.”
McGregor’s jab is the sort of tease that the former double UFC champion will hope can tease Mayweather out of retirement, but Money has said recently that he and McGregor will get it on again one day – but that was before the Poirier loss.
With that loss, McGregor has to rearrange his plans to fight Manny Pacquiao and now looks set to get a rematch this summer.
