Police are trying to identify a suspect accused of stealing a $50,000 watch from a woman at a Novato jewelry store.
The incident was reported at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at Gold Rush Jewelers at 926 Diablo Ave. in the Novato Fair Shopping Center plaza, police Sgt. Trevor Hall said. The victim reported that she met the suspect at the shop to verify the value of the watch in order to sell it to him.
The suspect allegedly tried on the watch and left without paying. Surveillance footage shows the suspect running toward the back of the store. He fled the scene, possibly as a passenger, in a black Acura SUV with an unknown license plate number, Hall said.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 30s, standing about 5 foot 10 and weighing about 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a navy blue polo shirt, blue jeans, gray shoes, and a white surgical mask.
