When it comes to sport watches and tool watches—that is, everything from deep-sea divers to racetrack-ready chronographs—it's hard to overstate the influence of the 1960s. Not only did some of the watches we now consider icons either get their introduction or reach a new level of popularity, but the design codes and aesthetics of the era still loom large over both the modern and vintage markets.
Not a history buff? No problem. Here's the short version: You like cool, vintage-y watches? Well you're gonna love the watches of the '60s, because there's a very good chance that everything you dig about the idea of old-school timepieces was informed by the era. And here's some very good news about that: Bob's Watches, one of the biggest secondhand marketplaces for horological grails, just introduced its latest "Fresh Finds" auction dedicated to the very decade we've been talking about.
The lineup includes four models, all of which are more than worthy of your attention. There's a GMT Master ref. 1675 from 1961 (with a Pepsi dial, naturally), plus a black-dial Submariner (ref. 5512) from the same year. There's also a ref. 1016 Explorer from 1963 and, if you're looking to delve just a little further into the decade, a pre-moon landing Omega Speedmaster from 1965. All of 'em have quite the backstory. The only question is, are you buying just one or going in for the whole lot? Haaaaa just kidding. Or maybe not?
Check everything out right here, and head to Bob's Watches to get your bids in (there's no buyer's premium, which is an extra-nice bonus) before the auction wraps up on August 4. Good luck, and if you're feeling generous, feel free to send literally any of these my way. (Hey, it could happen. Right? Right?!?)
